Picture Stockport

Bringing the known and hidden artworks of Stockport to life

See the new works

From January to February 2017 the people of Stockport and beyond were asked to vote for their favourite work of art of Stockport.

The top-eight works in the public vote formed an exhibition alongside newly created work by contemporary artists and the people of Stockport.

The process of creating the new work happened through public and group art workshops in Stockport Central Library and community venues across Stockport.

People had the opportunity to work with artists to respond to and explore their own memories and histories of Stockport. The artists then took people’s ideas and contributions to make the work you see on this web site.

Many people expressed how proud they felt to be part of Stockport; its history and heritage, its creativity, its people, places and spaces, making it a unique place to be.

We wish that you enjoy the new work created, and perhaps ponder the interrelationship between history and the present.

A big thank you to everyone who took part!
